How to Order the Right Size the First Time (So You're Not Sending It Back)

Performance Hub

measure once, order once

You do not have half an hour for this. You want to order the right size, wear it, and get on with the day. Here is the fast way to do that.

We’re Ben and Kylie. We run STRYD Performance. This is the process we’d tell a friend to use.

the short version,

Measure yourself once.
Check the chart for that product.
Know what to do if you’re between sizes.

Why “your usual size” doesn’t always transfer

A size Medium in one brand’s tee is not the same Medium in another brand’s leggings. Different fabrics stretch differently, different styles are cut for different amounts of ease, and a size label is really just a name for a set of measurements that varies brand to brand and even style to style within the same brand.

That’s why a size chart matters more than a size label. It tells you what a size actually measures, on this product, right now.

Measure yourself once

Two minutes with a soft tape measure, in whatever you’re wearing right now.

  • Waist. Measure around the narrowest part of your torso, usually just above your belly button. Keep the tape snug but not tight.
  • Hips. Measure around the fullest part of your hips and bottom, feet together.
  • Chest or bust (for tees, tops and sports bras). Measure around the fullest part, tape level all the way round.

Write the three numbers down. They don’t change often, so this is a once-a-year job, not a once-a-purchase job.

Check the chart on the specific product

Every product page has its own size chart, across both our men’s and women’s ranges, because the fit isn’t the same across the range. A pair of leggings built to hold their shape fits differently to a regular fit tee, and a men’s tee is cut differently again to a women’s. Look for the size chart link near the size selector on the product page, and check your two or three numbers against it before you choose.

If you’re between two sizes

Depends what the piece is for.

  • For a fitted piece (leggings, a fitted tee like EVERYDAY HERO, a sports bra), most people choose the smaller of the two sizes, since a snug fit is usually the point.
  • For an oversized piece (our I LIKE IT LOOSE tees, worn by both men and women, are built to run big, on purpose, that’s the style), most people choose the larger size, or stay with what the chart already suggests for an oversized fit.
  • For shorts with a drawcord or adjustable waistband (like the men’s APEX training shorts), there’s a bit more room to move either way, since the waistband itself does some of the adjusting.

If you’re still unsure, our reply to a quick email is usually faster than reading three more reviews.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know my STRYD size?

Measure your waist, hips and (for tops) your chest or bust, then check those numbers against the size chart on the specific product page, since fit and sizing vary by style, and men’s and women’s ranges are charted separately.

What if I’m between two sizes?

For a fitted piece, most people choose the smaller size. For an oversized style, most people choose the larger size or follow what the chart already suggests. Shorts with a drawcord or adjustable waistband give you a bit more room either way.

Do STRYD’s oversized tees run big on purpose?

Yes, styles like I LIKE IT LOOSE are designed to sit loose. Their size chart reflects that oversized fit, so check it rather than assuming your usual size.

What if my size doesn’t fit when it arrives?

Email returns@strydperformance.com.au and we’ll reply the same day with a return form and next steps. You have 30 days from delivery to get in touch, it’s processed as store credit rather than a cash refund, and store credit applies automatically at your next checkout. The item needs to be unworn and unwashed with tags attached, and you cover the return postage. Sale items are excluded. Full detail is on our Returns & Exchanges page.

Do leggings and tees use the same size chart?

No. Each product carries its own size chart, because different fabrics and cuts fit differently even at the same size label. Always check the chart on the specific product you’re buying.
